Someday Exhibition
Someday is an exploration of the intersection of culture and place in a community at the forefront of global climate catastrophe.
Under threat from both deadly tsunamis and government relocation, the people of Niaqornat, an indigenous community perched on the Arctic fringes of our world, fight to maintain their place within it. Theirs is a centuries–long attunement to the ever–present ebbs and flows of their environment: It is the intuition of when narwhals will return to their waters or the prediction of an oncoming storm. It is the handing down of traditional knowledge and the community strengthened around it.
This collection of images was completed over the course of two days–constrained by severe weather and a damaged helicopter–on what was planned as a much longer stay and the culmination of years spent cultivating ties with this community.
